Welcome back to Animated Shorts week!
Today we’re watching World’s Most Famous Tales’ adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. This 1994 Japanese production from Toei retells Beaumont’s adaptation of the tale with few additions or changes. It’s solid and serviceable, with acceptable TV animation and extremely 1994 designs (Those horns! That mullet!). There’s nothing that makes this adaptation stand out, but similarly, not much to seriously critique it on either. It’s inoffensive, but not particularly inspired. If you’re looking for an animated short that faithfully retells the story as it has been handed down, you’re all set.
