Welcome to Animated Shorts Week, where we’ll be looking at short adaptations of Beauty and the Beast from a variety of sources!

We’re starting off with Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics, a Japanese series that originally aired in 1988 and was adapted into English by the Saban company (hence its extremely catchy theme song!). In their adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, because of her father’s impetuousness, Maria is affianced to a curious monster with a gentle manner, and slowly comes to love him as she spends time in his castle. The animation is simple and charming, and everything is stylistically consistent making this one of the nicest looking shorts we’ll be watching this week.
